FLEET VIDEO TELEMATICS
Drivers and fleets are constantly on the road delivering items, traveling to the next job site, or solving issues at customers’ homes. With so much time spent on the road, accidents will inevitably occur, putting drivers, their vehicles, and your company at risk. How can fleets minimize these vulnerabilities? By adding video telematics to your safety program. Video offers transparency into your assets’ daily use, so you can stay two steps ahead of your fleet’s challenges and protect your company in case of an accident or breakdown.
How can video telematics protect your fleet?
Accident recreation When accidents happen, figuring out who’s at fault in the rush of repairing vehicles and working with insurance firms can feel overwhelming. Without concrete evidence, resolving an accident can be time-consuming—and costly. An accident can even put some companies out of business, with light-vehicle loss costs averaging $70,000 and heavy-truck costs almost doubling that at $120,000. Video enables accident recreation and provides indisputable evidence to exonerate drivers and protect your company from liabilities and false claims.
Safety coaching It’s not uncommon for drivers to develop risky habits, from texting while driving to seatbelt violations to speeding to fatigue. With a dash cam in the vehicle, fleet managers can identify, address, and remedy such behaviors with AI-integrated systems and event recording. In addition, with access to Geotab’s marketplace for training, fleets can proactively improve driver safety and reduce accidents.
Enhance efficiency Inefficient routes, excessive idling, and unapproved vehicle use can lead to wasted fuel and loss of income. Dash cams with GPS tracking can follow unauthorized driving and allow managers to identify optimized routes, streamlining operations and increasing productivity.
Camera Types
There are a variety of dash camera types to choose from. Here are the differences you should know:
Single-lens cameras have one lens and tend to be road-facing. In contrast, dual-lens cameras have two lenses, one facing the road and one facing the driver. Road- and driver-facing cameras can also utilize AI and Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) capabilities to coach drivers. Finally, we also offer a fully customizable 360-camera system, allowing for full coverage around the entire vehicle.
Wired is directly connected to the vehicle’s power supply through a cable and can offer continuous recording without recharging. Wireless, which connects wirelessly to the vehicle’s power supply, is easy to install and flexible but must be recharged regularly.
As the name suggests, cloud-connected cameras use Wi-Fi or cellular data to upload footage to the cloud, allowing remote access using an app. Standalone cameras store local recordings on a memory card or internal storage device. Cloud-connected cams offer convenience but may require a separate subscription; standalone cams are simple and affordable but not as convenient to access.
Mike Albert has partnered with Geotab and Sensata to provide top-quality sound and image through their KP2 camera model with the CP4S DVR addition.
Camera features:
- AI and ADAS features to prevent distraction and issue alerts, including tailgating, forward collision, and lane departure.
- GPS tracking to ensure drivers are on track.
- Night vision to capture clear images even in the dark.
- Motion detection and event recording to make sure accidents are fully captured.
- Wi-Fi connectivity for cloud uploads and convenient playback. The KP2 also includes a 64GB microSD card that can store over 50 hours of footage.
- Integrated V2X (Vehicle-to-Everything) communication, allowing vehicles to communicate with other vehicles, infrastructure, pedestrians, and the network to exchange information, allow for proximity alerts, and display the maintenance and utilization aspects of your fleet.
